Up until a few decades ago, planting blueberries was a challenge in Sacramento. The only varieties available were Northern Highbush varieties that originated in the northeastern United States. Most Northern Highbush blueberries require afternoon shade and cooler winter temperatures, which makes them better-suited for the Foothills.
